• Circumcision

Circumcision is different for men and women, but it involves the cutting off of parts of the genitals for cultural, medical or non-medical reasons. There are other procedures in which genitals are surgically altered such as babies born intersex or those who are transitioning, but they aren’t considered circumcisions.

Depending on the procedure, culture or religion, circumcision may be considered an accepted part of society or it can be considered barbaric.

The two sub-topics below provide more information on male and female circumcision.
